EGEC is inviting to this interesting webinar, sharing details on how geothermal lithium provides the EU with vast and sustainable quantities of this essential raw material.

Lithium-ion batteries are vital to accelerating the decarbonisation of transport and better integrating variable renewable energies into electricity grids. The EU’s import dependency on raw materials such as lithium combined with concerns over the life-cycle impact of lithium extraction and processing could dampen investment along the full battery value-chain.

To provide more details on the opportunities provided by geothermal lithium, the European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) is inviting to a webinar  “Geothermal lithium and sustainable battery production in the EU”.

  • Date: 24 November 2020
  • Time: 11:00-12:30 (CET)

Geothermal lithium provides the EU with vast and sustainable quantities of this essential raw material. The expert panel will discuss this the European Commission’s Sustainable Batteries proposal.

Speakers:

  • Claudia Gamon, MEP, Renew Europe
  • James Frith, Head of Energy Storage, BloombergNEF
  • Pia Alina Lange, Head of Internal & External Communications, RECHARGE Batteries
  • Horst Kreuter, Co-Founder & Executive-Director, Vulcan Energy Resources Limited
  • Dr. Robert Pell, Founder & Director, Minviro Limited

Registration

Moreover, in May, EGEC released a policy paper outlining an industrial strategy for a sustainable geothermal lithium battery value chain in Europe.
