WGC2020 IRENA/ Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs event, Oct 26, 2021
Meet the Global Geothermal Alliance, IRENA and the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs at this geothermal side event during the World Geothermal Congress 2020+1 in Reykjavik.
Geothermal is a key component in the energy transition and climate action towards a more climate-resilient world. It is the only renewable source capable of providing reliable baseload and flexible electricity, heating and cooling, and other direct applications. It is reliable, sustainable, climate-resilient and produces neglectable GHG emissions. Nevertheless, the industry has struggled to position itself as an attractive investment due to a lack of full awareness of its benefits, preventing it from reaching its true potential as the staple energy of the 21st century.
In the framework of the GGA, IRENA, and the Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to disseminate the benefits of geothermal energy and inform the real value towards energy transition and climate action. Thus, creating a business environment that recognises the particularities and benefits of this technology and allows the energy sector to take advantage of opportunities that can be generated by geothermal energy.
To that end, the organising partners of the event under this initiative aim to disseminate the currently available information relevant to make a case on geothermal to enhance the dialogue between governments, international organisations, and the private sector.
