Geothermal district heating is likely a crucial element of the decarbonisation of the heating sector, so learn more from Arctic Green Energy at the World Geothermal Congress 2020+1 taking place Oct. 24-27, 2021.

Getting ready for the World Geothermal Congress 2020+1 starting Oct. 24, 2021 in Reykjavik, Iceland, ThinkGeoEnergy is collaborating with Green by Iceland and Iceland Geothermal, a cluster initiative by the Iceland geothermal energy sector on a short interview series.

Today, meet Eirikur Bragason, the CEO Arctic Green Energy Europe Ltd, the European subsidiary of Arctic Green Energy Corp., the company pushing the envelop for geothermal district heating in China together with partner Sinopec.

1. Any suggestions for WGC attendees that are “must-see” while they are in Iceland?

Hellisheidi Power Plant reflects the very best of Icelandic engineering and sustainable utilization of clean geothermal energy producing 305 MW in parallel with a 400 MWth heating capacity. Thingvellir, the world’s oldest parliament, was founded in a unique landscape, and Sky Lagoon is a modern mixture of architecture, engineering, and a relaxing spa experience.

2. How did you come to work for Arctic Green Energy, and how has this changed your view on sustainable energy?

Arctic Green Energy is the global leader in geothermal development and is an exciting team to work with. I’m very proud to be a team member who has been contributing so enormously to reducing CO2 by replacing fossil fuel heating with clean geothermal energy.

3. Talk about your company’s area of expertise?

We are a leader in developing geothermal heating systems, advanced clean energy solutions, and an exciting and humorous team to work with.

4. How many countries have you worked in with geothermal?

More than ten countries, including projects in Central Europe that are the highlights. Our opportunities are in countries where air pollution is a big problem, and geothermal energy can replace fossil fuels in heating households.

5. What is one of your favourite projects, and why?

A standout project for me is Hellisheidi Power Plant, the largest geothermal project in the world, where I was the resident engineer from initial construction to commissioning.

6. How do you see the long-term future for geothermal energy?

The awareness of global warming and geothermal energy opportunities for lowering CO2 emissions opens a row of opportunities for Arctic Green Energy.

Meet Arctic Green Energy Corp. at the World Geothermal Congress 2020+1, Oct. 24-27, 2021 at the Iceland Pavilion on the exhibition floors.
