The World Bank has played a strong supportive role to help Indonesia to develop its ambitious geothermal development program, both through support to the government but also for projects of Pertamina Geothermal Energy.

A recent article on the World Bank blog, describes the World Bank’s involvement in geothermal development in Indonesia.

The bank – so the article – has “been working closely with the Government of Indonesia to help address barriers and scale up of the development of geothermal.”

Through its Global Environment Facility (GEF), World Bank has been supporting the government through a grant “to undertake key reforms that will enhance the investment climate”.

With a $175 million IBRD loan and concessional financing of $125 million from the Clean Technology Fund (CTF), the World Bank supports Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE). The World Bank further has secured over $10 million in bilateral donor grants to strengthen PGE’s technical capabilities.
