The Geothermal giant Energy Development Corporation will inaugurate its 40 megawatt Nasulo geothermal power plant in Valencia, Negros Oriental, Friday.

The latest addition of EDC to the Southern Negros Geothermal Production Field, which operates the 192.5 MW Palipinon I and II geothermal power plants is expected to boost the demand for power supply in the Visayas region, Dwight Maxino, SNGP head and EDC vice president for Negros, said.

Department of Energy Secretary, Carlos Jericho Petilla, EDC chairman and CEO Federico Lopez, and EDC president Richard Tantoco will lead guests at the inauguration rites at the power plant site in Sitio Nasuji, Barangay Puhagan in Valencia town.

Joining them are Gov. Roel Degamo and Valencia Mayor Edgar Teves, among others, in unveiling the marker of the power plant.

Maxino said yesterday that a reliability test conducted reached about 48 MW and is currently running on 40 to 45 megawatts.

He said he believes the power plant, while not totally addressing the projected deficit in the country next year, will help to minimize its effects.

He said the government must invite investors to put up more power plants in the Visayas power grid, Maxino added.
