Geothermal drilling operations have begun in the town of Akharim, located in the Sandikli district of Afyonkarahisar, Türkiye following a tender process conducted by the municipality. The exploration drilling campaign aims to validate the existence of a geothermal resource and determine the possible applications of it, thus driving potential investment in the region.
AK Party Afyonkarahisar Member of Parliament Ali Özkaya, together with Akharim Mayor Süleyman Kaynak, inspected the drilling site and received information from officials about the ongoing work. As stated by Özkaya stated that if hot water is confirmed through drilling, the geothermal resource is planned to be utilized in various applications, primarily for greenhouse farming and thermal tourism.
Özkaya further stated that the study holds significant potential for Akharim, as the discovery of a geothermal resource can boost the economy by bringing in new investment and creating employment opportunities. “Hopefully, with the discovery of hot water from the drilling that will be carried out, a new era will begin for Akharim. We believe that the geothermal resource has significant potential for contributing to our economy through thermal tourism, greenhouse farming, and various investments, and for creating new job and employment opportunities,” he further added.
