The American Samoa Power Authority in collaboration with the American Samoa Renewal Energy Committee is exploring the feasibility of geothermal energy as an alternative energy source and will soon start drilling to provide an in-depth analysis of resources in the area

Local news sources provide good news for geothermal development in the American Samoa.

The governor, Lolo Matalasi Moliga, says the American Samoa Power Authority, in collaboration with the American Samoa Renewal Energy Committee is exploring the feasibility of geothermal energy as an alternative energy source.

He says there have been positive results from a study by a team of scientists and engineers probing part of the main island of Tutuila.

The next step is to conduct drilling to further analyse geothermal resources.
