Baseload Capital continues its international geothermal project development in Japan, Taiwan, Iceland and the U.S. with four plants to come online in 2021.

In its interim report for the year of 2020, Swedish Baseload Capital provides a great overview on the progress of its international geothermal development work.

In Japan, the company’s Japanese subsidiary is operating its pilot project Midori in Kitsune. It showed what is possible to commission power plants in combination with onsen spas. With its second pilot project Waita, it showed the possibility to increase efficiency of existing power plants. The company is working on two additional projects. the Sansui project near the existing Waita power plant and the expectation of a start of operation in Q2 or Q3 of 2021. Another project is the Okue project in Iwane. The potential here is up to 1.9 MW so the company. A drilling location is currently being evaluated.

In Taiwan, the company states having selected projects under development, yet mentions only the Westlake project. Here, the company continues drilling activities, expecting it to  be the first commercial geothermal power plant in Taiwan.

In Iceland, through partner Varmaorka, work continues on evaluating potential additional projects. Earlier this year, the company started operations at the Reykholt plant, operations for the Efri-Reykir plant is expected this year as well as the expansion of the Kopavatn (Fludir) plant.

In the U.S., Baseload Capital has signed three land lease agreements in Nevada and is working on the set up of the Wendel geothermal plant with a possible commissioning in the second half of 2021. On this project, it seems that the recent investment by a Fund by oil giant Chevron is also in parts aiming on getting this project off the ground.
