The Bigadic Municipality in Türkiye is planning to drill seven boreholes for geothermal resource exploration within the boundaries of the district.

The Municipality of Bigadic in Balikesir Province, Hisarkoy District in Türkiye is planning to conduct a geothermal resource exploration campaign with the drilling of seven boreholes. The cost of the project is estimated to be 6.2 million TL (USD 320,000) and the study area is located only 60 meters from the Hisarköy Geothermal Facilities.

The Bigadic Municipality will determine the purpose of use of the well according to the temperature and flow values of the geothermal fluid to be extracted from the planned wells. When it is determined that sufficient and suitable fluid has been reached as a result of the good finishing tests, the drilling process will be completed.

In a recent article in Dergipark published by TUBITAK, it is stated that drilling works have been previously carried out in the Region by private entities, the Bigadic Municipality, and the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration.

The first studies were carried out by a private party, and determined that there are geothermal fluids at a temperature of 67 degrees Celsius. Later studies carried out by Bigadic Municipality and General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration, indicated thermal waters at 98 degrees Celsius with predominantly sodium, bicarbonate, and sulfate composition.
