Brzesko, Poland to reissue tender for geothermal drilling due to expensive initial offer
The commune of Brzesko Poland will soon re-issue a tender for geothermal drilling after the first round received only one offer beyond the the project's budget.
The commune of Brzesko in Poland has canceled its first tender for geothermal drilling after receiving only one offer at a cost beyond the intended investment for the project. Thus, a new tender is expected to be announced by either October or November 2025.
Only one entity, UOS Drilling, submitted an offer for the initial tender for geothermal drilling in Brzesko. However, the cost of the bid was around PLN 20.6 million, which was beyond the city’s budget of PLN 16.1 million. The commune is receiving PLN 13.7 million in funding for the project from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, as committed by a financing agreement signed in late 2024.
Grzegorz Brach, deputy mayor of the city and commune of Brzesko, explains that a significant item of the tender was the preparation of the drilling site and the construction of a road for the mobilization of the drilling rig. The city is now slightly modifying the tender specifications and expects that the costs of completing the projects under the new conditions should be much lower.
The plan for the project is to drill a geothermal well on Pomianowski Stok, near the hospital. According to initial studies, the temperature of the thermal waters at depth should be at around 60 °C. Depending on the water’s parameters, it can be used for the heating system of Brzeskor, for balneology, or for recreational thermal pools.
Earlier this year, the commune of Brzesko assigned Warsaw-based Geotermia Polska Sp. z o.o as the Contract Engineer for the geothermal project. Among the duties of the contractor is the preparation of the documentation needed for the public procurement process to select the drilling service provider.
