The unit had to be shut in the previous year due to malfunction but it is already online and also undergoing close monitoring.

After a long shutdown, Energy Development Corp (EDC) has put back online one of the generating units form the Bacon-Manito geothermal plants.

According to the news source, “in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, EDC said the BacMan facility’s 55-megawatt (MW) Unit 2 has completed reliability runs and is delivering electricity to the grid. The unit, however, remains subject to close monitoring and/or to additional tests,” the Lopez-controlled company said.

The unit was shut down March 2013 due to malfunction after some rehabilitation works in the plant. The new unit was recommisioned this last February after Unit 1 in the plant had also to close due to small cracks in the blades of the turbine.

Since then, EDC acquired the BacMan geothermal power facility in 2009 and had to rehabilitate the facility.

The same source reports that EDC will replace the facility’s turbine rotor and diaphragms, which would be sourced from Japanese firm Toshiba.EDC targets to complete the parts replacement for BacMan’s Unit 1 in the fourth quarter this year and Unit 2 in the first quarter next year.
