EOIs for the feasibility study for a proposed geothermal spa complex by GDC at the Menengai steam fields will be accepted until 18 August 2022.

The Geothermal Development Kenya (GDC) has announced a call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for a feasibility study of a geothermal heat swimming pool and spa complex project at the Menengai Geothermal Field in Kenya. EOIs will be accepted until 18 August 2022 at 14:00H East Africa Time.

This is a follow up to our earlier report on GDC’s plans to build a geothermal spa modeled after Iceland’s Blue Lagoon. If plans materialize, this will be the second geothermal spa in Kenya after the first one built in the Olkaria steam fields by KenGen.

One of GDC’s mandates it to promote alternative or “direct” uses of geothermal energy. Geothermal-heated pools and spas have been used in many parts of the world for leisure, recreation, wellness, and eco-tourism. Such projects also add revenue streams to geothermal sites.

For this reason, GDC is considering setting up a spa complex and hence seeks to engage the services of experienced firms and consortiums to undertake a feasibility study for such an establishment.

The evaluation criteria for the firms or consortiums are provided in the detailed EOI document. Submissions of the EOI must be made in English and received in a plain sealed envelope and delivered to:

Managing Director & CEO,
Geothermal Development Company Ltd (GDC)
GDC Kawi House, South C
P.O Box 100746 – 00101, Nairobi Kenya

Bidders are advised to check the GDC website periodically for any uploaded information through clarification or addendum.
