The Directorate General of Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) in Indonesia has provided an extension of the exploration period for three geothermal working areas, Baturaden, Blawan-Ijen, and Telaga Ngebel.

The government through the Directorate General of Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has provided an extension of exploration for several geothermal working areas (WKP).

Ida Nuryatin Finahari, Director of Geothermal of EBTKE Directorate General of ESDM Ministry, revealed that from five WKP whose exploration contract is almost over, three WKP have been granted extension period.

Basically the additional time for exploration given by the government is not entirely interpreted as an additional time, but rather a compensation for the time required to administer various administrations such as licensing and social issues prior to exploration activities.

“Timeouts are lost, they can not do anything as long as they have permission, environmental, and community resistance issues. That’s the stagnant thing we count, “Ida said when met after press conference Indonesian International Geothermal Convention and Exhibition (IIGCE) 2018 in Jakarta, today.

According to Ida, three WKP who get the time is WKP Baturaden, Central Java which has a potential energy of 220 MW. WKP Baturaden is currently managed by PT Sejahtera Alam Energy.

In addition, WKP Blawan – Ijen. WKP located in East Java will be built geothermal plant facilities with a capacity of 110 MW with developer PT Medco Cahaya Geothermal.

The last WKP to get an additional period of exploration is WKP Telaga Ngebel managed by PT Bakrie Darma Karya Energy in East Java with potential capacity of 165 MW.

WKP Baturaden had an exploration deadline completed or ended on April 10, 2018, for Telaga Ngebel was to end on June 15, 2018, and WKP Blawan-Ijen exploration deadline fell on May 24, 2018.
