PT Geo Dipa Energi has signed a contract with PLN on the development of geothermal plants at Patuha in Bandung Regency, Indonesia. A total of up to 8 plants could be built. Currently one plant is operating with a capacity of 55 MW (unit 1) and an additional 55 MW (unit 2) under construction.

Indonesian state-owned geothermal developer/ operator PT Geo Dipa Energi has contracted with PLN to develop eight geothermal power plant units by utilizing the geothermal potential at the Patuha Volcano.

ESDM Ministry’s Geothermal Director Ida Nuryatin Finahari said the potential for geothermal energy that could be developed at Patuha could be 400 MW.

The geothermal plant is a large contributor to regional income, so Ida Nuryatin Finahahri. PT Geodipa Energi has the obligation to pay PNBP (Non-Tax State Revenue) to the central government. In addition, the company also pays a production bonus to the local government where the exploitation is carried out, in this case the Bandung District.

“The production bonus received by the Bandung Regency Government reached Rp11.5 billion over 5 years,” she said. The production bonus is directly sent to the Bandung Regency Government through the local treasury.

Geo Dipa plans to build the eight units under long-term planning. Currently, PT Geo Dipa Energi is developing Unit 2 of the Patuha geothermal power plant with a targeted completion over the next two years. 2023 is the target for operation, according to GM PT Geo Dipa Energy Idham Purnama,.

The new unit does not require much additional new land use and is utilising existing wells drilled on site. With the second unit, the geothermal power generation capacity would double from currently 55 MW to 110 MW.

The Patuha geothermal area is located in the Pasirjambu District, Bandung Regency. Power generated from the plant will be transmitted to PLN via a 150 kv transmission etwork for the Java-Bali-Madura region. Electricity to PLN will be distributed to areas with high electricity demand. The key markets for the geothermal power generated at Pathua is West Java, for Bandung city and Bandung Regency.

The company is planning to continue the development with unit 3 planned to be completed in 2025.
