Doug Heffernan, a key player in the transformation of the NZ power sector, was made Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit and describes said transformation in a recent article.

Local news from NZ detail that as part of receiving an honour, the former CEO of Mighty River Power, Dough Heffernan describes his view on New Zealand’s energy transformation in a recent article on Stuff.co.nz.

Doug Heffernan, a key player in the transformation of the NZ power sector, was made Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

According to Mr Heffernan:

“The geothermal renaissance that’s occurred over the last decade . . . is the No 1 thing that has made a dramatic change to the energy footprint in New Zealand, and put it back on a track to a higher proportion of renewable energy.

“The second is the partnership model that was developed in working with Maori land trusts that has enabled them to participate in economic wealth creation in a way that hadn’t occurred at any time in the past in the energy sector.”
