Newcrest Mining is seeking to fill the position of a Geothermal Reservoir Engineer for its geothermal operations on Lihir Island in Papua New Guinea.
Newcrest Mining Limited has announced a job opening for a Geothermal Reservoir Engineer to support geothermal resource management activities at our Lihir open pit mine in Papua New Guinea.
Reporting directly to the Geothermal Superintendent your duties may include:
- Overseeing the successful implementation of well testing programs;
- Evaluating the reservoir response to pit cooling based on reservoir analysis, in order to understand reservoir characteristics;
- Interpreting the results of well measurements and reporting on production characteristics;
- Managing data quality for modelling purposes; and
- Providing technical mentoring for team members.
This is a contract position that will work on a 15/13 FIFO roster based at our Lihir mine.

Located on Niolam Island in the New Ireland Province of Papua New Guinea, Lihir offers both residential and fly in fly out opportunities (role dependent). About You
Our ideal applicant will have proven skills in reservoir engineering and geology, including practical experience in a geothermal field. Additionally, you will also hold a strong knowledge of well testing, numerical modelling, and production well drilling. Supplementing this background will be a tertiary qualification in Geothermal Engineering, Geology, Engineering, or a related discipline. Finally, while not essential, exposure to the PNG Mine Safety Act and associated regulations will be viewed favourably.
