Origin Energy Geothermal and Geodynamics report that Rig 100 has completed drilling the Celsius 1 geothermal exploration well at the Innamincka Shallows Joint Venture, reaching a target depth of 2,360 meters.

In a release this morning, “Origin Energy Geothermal Pty Ltd, on behalf of the Innamincka Shallows Joint Venture, advises that Rig 100 has completed drilling the Celsius 1 geothermal exploration well, reaching its target depth of 2,360 metres sub-sea (2,416 m MDRT#).

Logging and testing of the well has now commenced in order to evaluate the reservoir properties, including temperature, porosity and permeability at various depths.

Celsius 1 is the first of two exploration wells in this permit designed to assess the potential of the Hot Sedimentary Aquifer (HSA) resource within the Hutton Sandstone in the Eromanga Basin.

Origin intends to issue a release to the ASX when preliminary test results from Celsius 1 have been assessed.

Following the two-well program in GRL8 (Geothermal Retention Licence) Origin will use Rig 100 to drill a further well within its 100% owned permit, GEL 185, with the same objectives.

Geothermal exploration well, permit GRL8, is located in the Eromanga Basin, approximately 18 kms south-west from the township of Innamincka in northern South Australia.”
