Origin Energy Geothermal and Geodynamics announce that Rig 100 has commecned drilling the Celsius 1 exploration well at the Innamincka Shallows Joint Venture in the north of South Australia.

“Origin Energy Geothermal Pty Ltd, on behalf of the Innamincka Shallows Joint Venture, advises that Rig 100 has commenced drilling the Celsius 1 geothermal exploration well in GRL8 (Geothermal Retention Licence) in the Eromanga Basin, approximately 18 kms south-west from the township of Innamincka in northern South Australia.

Celsius 1 is the first of two exploration wells in this permit designed to assess the potential of the Hot Sedimentary Aquifer (HSA) resource within the Eromanga Basin sediments. These wells will assess parameters including temperature, porosity and permeability at various depths.

Origin believes that the Shallows HSA play has the potential to complement the prospectivity of the Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS) play, which it is concurrently pursuing with Geodynamics via the Innamincka Deeps Joint Venture.

Origin intends to issue a release to the ASX at the commencement and completion of drilling activities for each of these wells, or in the event that material information regarding the wells becomes available.

Following the two-well program in GRL 8 Origin will drill a further well within its 100% owned permit, GEL 185, with the same objectives.

Well type and location: Geothermal exploration well, permit GRL8, Eromanga Basin, South Australia

Celsius 1 is being drilled as a vertical well to intersect the Hutton Sandstone at a prognosed vertical depth of 2,140 metres sub-sea (2,196 metres MDRT#). Total depth for the well is planned to be 2,341 metres sub-sea (2,397 metres MDRT).”
