Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) will start exploration work at its Bukit Daun project in Lebong, Bengkulu Province by mid-October 2016.

In an announcement today, Indonesian PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) has announced it will start exploration work on its Bukit Daun project in Rejang Lebong and Lebong, Bengkulu Province, in mid October 2016.

The President Director of PT PGE Irfan Zainuddin in Bengkulu, said that the location Bukit Daun is the second location in Bengkulu where it conducts geothermal work.

The first location for drilling wells was in Hululais, Lebong District.  There it drilled seven wells. On the site of Bukit Daun, PT PGE will drill a first well as a preliminary step to determine the exact amount of geothermal energy for electricity generation..

“We predict that there is a potential of about 90 MW at the site of Bukit Daun. Right now, we are preparing the infrastructure for exploration activities,” he said.

The projects of Bukit Daun and Hululais, with a targeted start of operation in 2024 are expected to deliver up to 310 MW. The energy source is expected to meet the electricity needs for the province of Bengkulu. “In fact, we expect more, which would allow us to transmit power to Sumatra via interconnection”, said Irfan.
