Following an unsuccessful second drilling campaign for a geothermal project in Geretsried in Bavaria/ Germany, the local municipal partners have decided to dissolve a company founded to bring geothermal district heating to the community.

Following the failure of the second attempt on a successful drilling campaign, Energie Geretsried GmbH is now being dissolved, as reported in German papers today.

This decision was made by a shareholder meeting, following the failure of the developer Enex. Energie Geretsried was founded by the municipality utility in Geretsried and Bad Tölz, in order to develop a large-scale geothermal district heating system.

For the foreseeable future this is not likely, therefore it is better to dissolve the company. The existing heat distribution network in Geretsried-Sued will though be pursued and island solutions for heating systems will be developed.
