Turkis President Recep Tayyip Erdogan officially inaugurated three geothermal power plants this week, the Maspo Ala-2 and the Salihli 2 and 3 plants.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey and the country’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönme officially inaugurated three geothermal power plants on January 16, 2021. The plants inaugurated were the Sanko Energy Salihli 2 and Salihli 3 geothermal power plants (combined 54.5 MW in capacity), and the Maspo Ala-2 geothermal plant. The two Salihli plants and the Maspo Ala-2 plant started operations in late 2019, are binary plants and were built by Ormat.

Speaking after the opening ceremony of the Ala-2 geothermal power plant by Maspo  Enerji A.S., a company of the Gürmen Group, Remzi Gür, Chairman of Gürmen Group, said, “As a group, we invest in environmentally friendly renewable energy for a more livable world. In the realization of our investments in this field, we primarily chose geothermal as a strategic area. 1st in geothermal energy in Europe, Turkey ranks 4th in the world and has a significant growth potential. The official inauguration of the Ala-2 geothermal plant has been an important step for our investments in the renewable energy field common theme and from equipping these investments to our country, we are pleased to contribute to the development of Turkey’s domestic resources in geothermal energy, “he said.

Maspo Energy Inc. General Manager Murat Singh, “all the energy consumed in the world to the RE100 platforms where the company produces from renewable sources, which is the first and only group to be admitted from Turkey Gürmen Group companies in the Maspo Inc. “We Are Preparing For New Investments That Will Use Geothermal More Effectively”

Explaining that Maspo Enerji A.S. has the largest and most efficient license in Manisa region where it currently has investments with a geothermal field of 12 thousand 650 hectares, Solmaz continued as follows: “Geothermal energy with 10 MW power as the first phase of our geothermal power plant investments in 2017 power plant ALA-1 and started the investment process of 30 MW ALA-2 geothermal power plant. With the official opening of ALA-2, we took a big step in achieving our goals.

Making a statement regarding the new investment targets, Solmaz said, “We increased our targets. We started our work on the integrated investments in geothermal energy. We continue our feasibility studies on greenhouse and agricultural investments where geothermal is used effectively. On the other hand, we continue our works for the third phase of our investments without interruption ”.

The other two plants that were inaugurated, the Salihli JES-2 and JES-3 power plants, have a total installed capacity of 54.5 MW and an annual production of around  and annual electricity energy of 500 GWh, sufficient to meet the energy demand of around 200,000 households. Both plants ensure around 280,000 tons of CO2 emission savings.

Sanko further is heating around 8,600 homes with geothermal energy in the municipality of Salihli.
