PT PLN (Persero) Nusa Tenggara Development Main Unit (Unit Induk Pembangunan Nusa Tenggara / UIP Nusra) has signed the contract for the construction of supporting infrastructure in preparation for drilling and subsequent development at the Atadei geothermal site in the Lembata Regency, part of the Lesser Sunda Islands of Indonesia.
The contract covers the construction of access roads, well pads, and water supply systems. Signing of the contract was done between PT PLN Nusantara Power Construction Consortium and PT Wijaya Karya Industri and Konstruksi.
The planned development envisions the construction of 2 x 5 MW geothermal power plants. Despite the modest size, this will be more than enough for the island of Lembata, which is currently supplied power from a diesel plant with a capacity of 6.5 MW and peak load of 5.7 MW.
An update by PT PLN in early 2025 indicated that the local government has been supporting the acquisition of land needed for the two planned well pads. According to the previous update, well T-1 is planned in Nubahaereka Village and well AT-2 will be in Atakore Village. It is unclear yet if these drilling plans are still in place.
