TNG performs 400th rig-less geothermal wellhead repair

U.S.-based TNG Enterprises reports having completed its 400th rigless wellhead repair using its Geothermal Wellhead Equipment Repair Tool (GWERT) on a job in Japan.
In a release, U.S.-based TNG Enterprises Inc. (“TNG”), a global geothermal valve and wellhead service company, with Geothermal Energy Research and Development Co. Ltd (“GERD”), a Japanese geothermal consultancy recognized for delivering valuable R&D, project management and highly technical geothermal services in Japan, announced having completed a master valve change using TNG’s proprietary rig-less wellhead repair solution, the Geothermal Wellhead Equipment Repair Tool (GWERT).
TNG’s GWERT has completed 400 valve changes across the US, Philippines, Indonesia and New Zealand over the past 19 years. Partnering with GERD enabled TNG to safely service a problematic master valve on a high pressure geothermal well; the first valve change of its kind in Japan.
The logistics and handling of the GWERT container, as well as a crated airfreight shipment of a second packer tool were managed seamlessly thanks to the joint efforts of TNG and GERD officials. The GWERT was rigged up at the well site without issue. The wellbore was cleaned by running the scraper and mill. The scope of work called for a double packer due to high wellhead pressures (550 psi +). Therefore, TNG assembled a 13 3/8” packer and inserted it in the wellbore. They then assembled a second 13 3/8” packer on site, re-entered the well and set it just above the first packer. This double packer seal reassured the customer and safely enabled the TNG crew to replace the faulty valve with a brand new 12” 900# geothermal master valve. Once the valve replacement was complete TNG retrieved both packers and demobilized from the site.
