Energy Development Corp. (EDC) and Philippine Geothermal Production Co. Inc. have received a certification for two geothermal projects that will provide streamlined regulatory processes and requirements for the geothermal projects of Mahanagdong (EDC) and Mt. Malinao in the Philippines.

As reported on the website of the Philippines Department of Energy, four energy projects have recently been recognized as projects of national significance. Two of these projects are geothermal projects, lead by Energy Development Corp. (EDC) and Philippine Geothermal Production Co. Inc.

The certificate of being energy project of national significance (CEPNS) for the commercial phase is in line with Executive Order 30 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte in June 2017. The certification aims to streamline the regulatory procedures and requirements relevant to the development of energy investments in the country.

Lopez-group-led Energy Development Corp. received its determination for the Mahanagdong Geothermal Brine Optimization Plant, while the Philippine Geothermal Production Co. Inc.’s received it for its Mt. Malinao Geothermal Project.

As of this year, the Energy Investment Coordinating Council has received 368 applications, of which 297 were accepted. of the projects, 140 were certified as CEPNS, while 157 applications are still under evaluation.
