Join this webinar with Dr. Ben Burke, Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder of Transitional Energy, for an interesting presentation on the geothermal conversion of oil and gas wells in Nevada.

As part of the regular IGC Webinar series – a partnership of Enerchange and ThinkGeoEnergy – we are proud to host this week’s presenter Dr. Ben Burke, from Transitional Energy, who will provide insights on the geothermal conversion of existing oil and gas wells in Nevada.

After the presentation you will have the opportunity to discuss and ask further questions.

After working as a geoscientist and subsurface professional in the northeastern Gulf Coast and mountain west regions of the United States for 23 years, Dr. Ben Burke is now Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder of Transitional Energy. Prior to co-founding Transitional Energy in February 2020, Ben Burke had also worked in the oil and gas industry in Houston and Denver.

The conversion of oil and gas wells to geothermal power producers will be piloted in the Pine Valley of north central Nevada, USA, and geologic provinces in western North America. The oil field hosting the project was once one of the most prolific onshore oil fields in the United States in the early 1980s. Now the field produces about 99 percent water with reservoir temperatures greater than 120 degrees Celsius. The geothermal conversion, as well as co-production alongside existing oil and gas production, takes into account subsurface geoscience and reservoir engineering parameters, current and potential artificial lift capabilities in the wells, wellbore integrity, the geochemistry of the produced fluids, and current surface facilities capabilities and future expansion potential.

Beside introducing the general framework and timeline of the project, the webinar will also cover the technical considerations and part of the data science aspects of the analysis.
